You are a mind, body and energy. Scientifically we know that an “emotion” refers to the dynamic changes of feeling accompanied by the alteration of physical and visceral activities.
We know that the autonomic nervous system (sympathetic and parasympathetic) regulates the visceral activities. Monitoring and analyzing the nervous activity helps us understand the emotional changes.. We also know this is a 2-way road.
Most of the powerful programming that happens in humans occurs in childhood, between conception and the age of 4. Early childhood experiences (programming) can result in life-long dysfunction, including attachment problems which are very destructive in the long run.
The longer that an incorrect or limiting belief persists within, the more distress, suffering, and dis-ease we experience. The manifestation of these can be in the form of behavior, in self-worth, personality, or in physical health symptoms.
All emotions and feelings need to be acknowledged, these are the “language” of your subconscious. Many confuse resisting, ignoring, or avoiding feelings as resiliency. These feelings that go unacknowledged never go away.
Not all trauma is obvious. The lack of clear and obvious physical abuse is not a lack of trauma. Trauma happens to children for the simplest and silliest reasons.. Infants and children have fears, especially of abandonment, and death. A parent walking away for 5 minutes might be perceived as life threatening leaving a trauma imprint in your subconscious mind.
As we live, we are exposed to millions of emotionally and physically stressful events, some are traumatic. Others, go on and on, repeating and persisting in a low-level manner, including simple (physical, mental, or emotional) stress.. This is known as small-t trauma. Chronic stress, chronic physical imbalances, chronic exposure to environmental stressors all contribute to the toxic load or chronic trauma.
When you get agitated, or violated but feel unable to express yourself, that is trauma. Animals in the wild either 1- run away 2- fight 3- pretend to be dead. If they don’t act on the fear and pretend to be dead they must get up after the threat is removed and shake physically. We humans never shake off this energy that nature demands we shake off..
Now, you are beginning to see how we store (emotional, physical, or energetic) trauma, in addition, we store incorrect beliefs. These latch on to us, haunt us, and hurt us. Yet, in essence, they are trying to protect us, and their effort of protecting us manifests in a negative manner.
Real and imagined threats often result in a physical reaction! Imagined fears often result in a real feeling and a physical reaction. In therapy, together, we harness this power of the mind, and the mind-body connection to cause empowerment and healing.
In preparation for the next perceived threat, a person will think about a future worst-case scenario – based on a specific past memory – and will emotionally embrace it with such focus and concentration, that their body begins to believe that it is living in that future reality in the present moment. The physical body is the “unconscious mind”. It does not differentiate between an actual vs. a perceived threat. As a result, the body can get knocked out of homeostasis just by thinking.
It is the redundancy of this process that conditions the body to become the mind of fear. In other words, anxiety is now subconsciously programmed into the body. In fact, when someone falls prey to a panic attack, they can try to control it with their conscious mind, but because it has been programmed into the body subconsciously, they have no ability to stop it because their body has literally become the mind of anxiety.

You observe your primary care giver, parents, loved ones, and take on their beliefs. We don’t know any better, we sense emotions and fears, we internalize, we catasrophize, and we misinterpret.
Trauma is easy to recognize when it is major, however little “t” trauma that is complex or chronic is often missed. Trauma of any kind leaves a lasting impact that can manifest at different stages of our life. Almost every human that has lived, has experienced trauma.
