Introduction
Certain truths are basic, universal, and transcend all man-made religions. Even though they are enmeshed with the symbols of superstitions and folk myths, these principles do not change. For example, all cultures have believed in a sun god of their imagination since each day begins with a sunrise and ends with the a sunset. The rising and setting of the sun represented the resurrection and death of their sun god. The point here is that all cultures believed in the resurrection and death of the sun although it was not revealed unto them that the sun represented the true son, Yahshua the Messiah (Mal 4:2; Rev. 12:1-2).
For thousand of years sages, adepts and poets from all cultures have understood that the entire universe is a whole and living unity, which means that all things are connected. Nothing is separate as it appears to human perception, but everything is interlinked.
Modern science has begun to verify this basic truth. Quoting from the book The Dancing Wu Li Masters by Gary Zukah, the field of atomic physics called quantum mechanics states the following: “…all things in our universe (including us) that appear to exist independently are actually parts of an all-compassing organic pattern, and that no parts of that pattern are ever really separate from it or from each other (p. 48).” This view has caused science to alter their perception of consciousness and presupposed inanimate physical matter.
Various experiments have been conducted to verify as fact a connection between organic and inorganic matter and man, such as the ‘Bell Theorem’ and the ‘Backster Effect,’ communication between plants and humans, which will be discussed later in this article. (For more details on the Bell Theorem see “Has Science Found God in Non-Local Reality?,” Dr. Lee E. Warren, B.A., D.D., (c) September/October 1996 “PLIM REPORT”, http://www.plim.org/nonlocal.htm) Now Paracelus, the Father of medicine, and Mesmer, the father of hypnotism, foretold that all living things (man, plants, earth, planets, and stars) are interconnected; what affects one affects them all.
The purpose of this article is to examine the principle of connectedness using the newly obtained knowledge from quantum physics and the research that has been done with plants and human communication by Cleve Backster. Both physics and plants verify the basic truth of the ancient sages found in all religions.
This article will also show that the Hindu religion along with the Bible verify that the Creator is a unity. Now the Great Master the Messiah demonstrated connectedness by stating that He and the Father are one (Jn. 10:30).
Hindu religion reveals connectedness to be especially true in their religious writings of the Bhagavad Gita that state the god Brahma is a unity. “Of unity with Brahma. He so vowed, So blended, sees the Life-Soul resident In all things living, and all living things In that Life-Soul contained. And whoso thus Discerneth Me in all, and all in Me, I never let him go; nor looseneth his Hold upon Me; but, dwell he where he may, Whate’er his life, in Me he dwells and lives,”
The Hindu writings go on to say that the universe is the womb of the Creator that brings forth life for the visible things. “… this Universe Is, by its principle of life, produced; Whereby the worlds of visible things are born As from a Yoni. Know! I am that womb: I make and I unmake this Universe: Than me there is no other Master, Prince! No other Maker! All these hang on me As hangs a row of pearls upon its string. I am the fresh taste of the water; I The silver of the moon, the gold o’ the sun, …”
Modern science has confirmed the basic truth that all things are connected, as stated by the poets, philosophers and religious writings. This connectedness was discovered in quantum physics and has literally turned physics upside down. Although the full implication is not totally understood, connectedness has altered the physicist’s view of the universe.
Pioneers in quantum physics noticed a strange phenomena of connectedness among atomic particles. It was initially thought of as some accident that occurred in isolated experiments. It was later called the Bell’s Theorem, named after physicist J. S. Bell in 1964 at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).
Experiments showed that when twin subatomic particles were emitted from an excited atom and they each traveled in opposite directions from each other, any change in one particle was instantaneously reflected in the other particle.
For example, suppose that twin particles were emitted from an excited atom and they were both spinning counterclockwise on their axis and directed in opposite directions from each other. Changing the spin of one particle to clockwise would be instantaneously reflected in the other, no matter if they were at opposite ends of the universe.
What this experiment reveals is that these particles are connected some mysterious way. This seems to violate how everyone views the world. The world is normally viewed by the principle of local cause. This means that what happens at one location does not depend upon variables controlled by an experimenter at a distant location. However, connectedness proves that under certain conditions what happens at one location does affect what occurs at another location.
No one is quite able to fully explain how this communication takes place. It has always been thought that for any communication to occur between particles or anything, there must be some signal transferred between them. Receiving a signal would enable the other particle to respond to the change that was made initially on the first particle. However, this communication appears like some form of telepathy, which most physicists disdain and do not believe exists.
The twin subatomic particle experiment implies that certain laws of the universe as understood by men would have to be violated. For example, if there were a signal released from one particle so that the other particle would respond, it would have to travel faster than the speed of light (183,000 miles per second) because the other twin particle tends to respond instantaneously. This is impossible as far as the current law of physics is concerned.
It states that nothing can exceed the speed of light. So if no physical particle signal can be released from one particle to the other, traveling faster than the speed of light, the big question is how is this information transferred instantaneously to the other particle.
In the spirit everything is connected, as in the case of various instances of coincidences. Human twins show this. Cases exist where although twins were separated for many years, they married similar women, with the same name, have the same injuries about the same time, and experience similar feelings at the same time.
During the Messiah’s ministry he alluded to the fact that there was connectedness in the universe. He told the leaders of Israel that He was one or a unity. “I and my Father are one (Jn. 10:30).” Israel didn’t understand the full meaning of this.
His statement implies that the universe in its totality is a unity, for the source and substance are one, which is pure spirit. Both the Father-Yahweh and the Son-Elohim are of the same substance, which makes them one.
The Son Elohim is the Father in shape and form, which is another state and condition of Pure Spirit, which has no shape and form and is All in All. It is in this state and condition that the Son created both the angelic and physical creations. Both creations must reflect this unity, for it is characteristic of spirit, the parent source and substance. In other words, if the Father and Son are ONE, then both creations of the Son, being his offspring, must be a unity. The Apostle John said, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Elohim (God), and the Word was Elohim (God). The same was in the beginning with Elohim (God). All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men (John 1:1-4).”
Connectedness means that nothing is separate although it may appear that way. Humans seem to be separate, but they are connected in ways the eyes cannot discern as was stated earlier in Gary Zukah’s quote. The Messiah said: “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.” The Messiah is saying that nothing takes place in the universe without Elohim’s knowledge, for He is omnipresence.
Another example of the Messiah demonstrating connectedness is when He healed a Gentile’s servant from a distance (Mt. 8:8-13). The centurion told the Messiah that his servant was ill and at home. He asked the Master to speak some words to heal him, for there was no need to bring the servant to the Messiah. When the centurion returned home and found his servant healed, he asked his servant at what time did the healing occur. He discovered that it was about the same time that he had been speaking to the Messiah.
An angel appearing in the vision (Ex. 3:1-2) of a burning bush demonstrated connectedness between Moses and Aaron. After the angel had given Moses His name (Ayah Asher Ayah” translated “I am that I am” or “I will be what I what to be”- Ex. 3:14-15) and signs, the angel commissioned him to go down into Egypt and deliver the Israelites from bondage.
Moses was reluctant to go and offered the excuse that he was slow of speech (Ex. 4:11-16). The angel got angry with Moses and asked him who made man’s mouth. The angel finally told him that his brother Aaron, who was a Levi and a good speaker, would meet him.
Here we have an angel being the connection between two brothers. This angel is summoning Aaron (Ex. 4:27) to meet Moses without Aaron’s knowledge of Moses’ need or being prompted.
The spirit of Elohim dictating to two individuals and coordinating their actions, compares to the instantaneous communication between particles in the experiment that proves the Bell Theory. This communication informs the twin particles that there is a change in one of the twins, which results in the other instantaneously reflecting this change. Science has no idea how this instantaneous communication occurs. When it is understood, it will reflect the operation of spirit.
Let’s proceed to another example verifying connectedness and consciousness between man and plants.
In the 1960’s Cleve Backster accidentally made a scientific discovery that confirmed connectedness. It also challenged the scientific community’s view of the world and their definition of consciousness. This discovery showed that there was connectedness and communication between plants and humans not dreamed of before.
Cleve Backster was America’s foremost lie-detector examiner. One night he decided to attach a leaf of the dracaena palm tree plant to electrodes of his lie detector equipment. Backster wanted to know whether the leaf was affected by water poured on the roots of the plants. He also wanted to know how long the water would take to reach the leaf.
To his surprise the lie detector started to form a graph in a saw tooth fashion. This pattern was very similar to that of humans experiencing a short duration of emotional stimulation. Backster wondered whether the plant was displaying emotion.
He knew the most effective way of triggering strong human reaction was to threaten human life, which would elicit a strong response by the lie detector. Backster decided to threaten the plant’s life to see what type of response the lie detector would get.
He first dunked the leaf of the plant into a hot cup of coffee. There was no response from the lie detector. Next, he decided to burn the leaf of the plant that had electrodes attached to it. The plant’s response to Backster’s intentions opened a Pandora’s box that totally changed science’s view of consciousness.
Backster found that the moment he thought of burning the plant in his mind, before he could move to get a match, the lie detector began registering a graph with a saw tooth motion. He wondered what the plant could be reacting to since he hadn’t made a move toward the plant or the lie detector.
The only conclusion that Backster could reach to explain the plant’s reaction to the thoughts in his mind, as reflected on the lie detector graph, was that the plant was able to read his mind. When he pretended to burn the plant, knowing that he really was not going to do it, the lie detector equipment remained motionless. The lie detector’s stillness showed that the plants could differentiate real from pretend thoughts. This implied that plants not only could think, but there appeared to be a connectedness between plants and humans, which means that plants have some form of consciousness.
Backster and others throughout the country continued experimentation and their conclusions were always the same. Others confirmed that the “Backster Effect” was a valid phenomenon, but they could not explain it by the current available scientific knowledge or paradigm.
From all this experimentation there was one shocking conclusion. All the plants showed a form of perception and a connected consciousness that science did not believe to exist. Articles were published in various reputable magazine to explain this phenomena. Here are some of the phenomenal results of these experiments from The Secret Life of Plants.
• Backster continued to examine the connectedness he discovered with the dracaena plant by using other plants, such as vegetables and fruits, in a series of experiments that were designed to show that plants were linked to their care giver. His tests showed that these plants could sense or feel, had memory, and reacted to various stimuli. Probably most startling was that his experiments continued to confirm that plants appeared to read the mind of humans. Here are brief descriptions of a few experiments and the results according to the book The Secret Life of Plants.
• While away on a lecture tour, Backster showed a slide of his initial observation in 1966 of the lie detector’s reaction to the dracaena plant. Now the same plant was attached to lie detector equipment in his office. The plant duplicated its original reaction at the same time the slide was being showed to an audience in another city.
• Backster hooked up a lie detector to a philodendron plant. He had a newspaper writer there to demonstrate what this plant could do. He interrogated the writer about his birthday. Backster called out seven years between 1925 1931. He told the writer to reply “no” to all the years. Backster looked at the plant’s graph on the lie detector and it showed a higher graph at the correct birthday of the writer.
• No matter if the leaf was cut off from the plant or trimmed to the size of the electrodes, the Backster Effect continued.
• Emotion was displayed by plants. They not only reacted to threats from humans, but dogs that the plants perceived intended to do them harm. Sometimes the plants would go into shock or “pass out.” A visiting friend of Backster said that he killed plants for scientific experimentation by baking them in the oven. The plants hooked to the lie detector or the polygraph did not register anything until his friend was safely on a plane out of town.
• Plant experiments demonstrate that they have memory. A person was selected to kill a plant and no one was allowed to know who did it. A number of people was brought before the only eyewitness, another plant hooked to lie detector equipment at the time. By changing the graphs, the plant attached to the polygraph machine, was able to correctly identify the person that killed the other plant.
• Plants were put into a sealed lead metal container with only the wires of the polygraph exposed and still the Backster Effect took place. In short, no manner of shielding seemed to jam the communication linking plants and human. From these experiments Backster concluded that they “…must somehow operate beyond the electromagnetic spectrum (p. 11),” according to the book The Secret Life of Plants.
• The Backster Effect tends to verify that living cells have some form of consciousness with which plants can communicate. Backster accidently cut his finger and put some iodine on it. He noticed that the polygraph that he had hooked up to a plant registered immediately. He concluded that the plants were reacting to the cells dying in his blood. He got the same effect when he poured hot water down the drain killing bacteria. He called in a medical expert, a cytologist, named Dr. Miller, who concluded, “… some sort of cellular consciousness must be common to all life (p. 11).”
Clearly, all of these experiments show that there is some definite form of connectedness, consciousness, and communication between plants and humans even down to the cellular level.
This communication between plants and animals, detected by the polygraph, exhibited a form of connectedness that appears to be beyond the physical radio wave or the electromagnetic spectrum since these forms of energy cannot read minds and intentions.
What the Backster Effect, along with the Bell Theorem, appears to imply is that a consciousness exists that connects all life and all things. This also seems to prove or verify the unity principle.
In conclusion, Backster states that consciousness “…does not seem to stop at the cellular level. It may go down to the molecular, the atomic and even the subatomic. All sorts of things which have been conventionally considered to be inanimate may have be re-evaluated (p. 12).” This is objective proof, that science had not previously conceived. All things, especially living organisms, are connected and conscious, which verifies the words of the Messiah that He and the Father are ONE.
