My body has been my teacher.
The human body and mind are one. Your body allows you to feel emotions. Unfortunately, we often fear the feelings, and the emotions become physical issues if they persist.
It took me YEARS to become aware to how my body was like a detector, a sensor, a white board, and an amplifier of emotions (subconscious and otherwise) ..
When you feel an emotion, check with your body, what does it feel like? Where is it (can be in multiple places at the same time)? You might have a difficult time putting this into words because the emotions are almost like flavors of food, you can recognize them, but it isn’t easy to describe them in words. Butterflies is one common example we use to describe that flutttery feeling in our stomach, often associated with fear or anxiety. This is explained by the function of the sympethetic nervous system and the vagus nerve. You don’t need to know the science to know that you “feel” emotions in your body.
Understand that it is “ok” to feel these emotions, emotions are a language, they are messengers. On their own, they are neither good or bad.
If your body responds in an anxious way, know that you have control, do not dismiss or ignore the feeling, rather (and this is where you need to be brave) embrace it, go into the feeling…. experience it.. then come out, and let it go. This reminds me of the quote: the best way out, is through.
Resistance will cause disease and prolong the suffering (emotionally and physically) .. Let your body do it’s job. Resistance whether it is to going into something, or letting go of something, will cause suffering.
It is common for us to think that resistance would prevent your suffering but it actually makes suffering last longer. So, go through, and come out, and see what you can learn. Sometimes a feeling or emotion might totally transform from being an enemy into a friend.
Your body is a part of your mind, and it talks to you and you talk to it all the time. Your body also stores memories, trauma, and emotions. This is why body work is important to emotional healing, and why all physical disease has an emotional aspect (and sometimes emotional causes), true healing happens when you work with the mind & the body.
