An excerpt from a paper I wrote a few months ago:
” One point I will educate parents on is that children enter into spontaneous hypnotic states around parents, repeating patterns of behaviors and experiencing patterns of emotions that are re-acted unconsciously. Self-induced hypnosis is not limited to children, every family member experiences this. (Linden, 2011; Ritterman, 1983)
The awareness of spontaneous hypnosis will help the adults be more mindful to when members are playing out hypnotic patterns, and also to the power of the their words. Children’s (programmed) behavioral patterns can be interrupted and changed, they can also be reinforced by the parents’ actions and language.
Linden (2011) agrees that attachment between parent and child involves the reality of spontaneous hypnotic states. Linden says these experiences can benefit the health of attachment, or they could cause negative experiences and negative post hypnotic programming. A simple statement by a parent might have a lasting impact and act as a post hypnotic suggestion for the child to play out. (Linden, 2011)”
